Solskjaer explains decision to leave Pogba out of Man Utd squad

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he wanted to rest Paul Pogba after leaving him out of Manchester United’s squad to play Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

United head to Burnley as they look to build on their 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Boxing Day, with a victory taking them up to fifth in the Premier League.

Pogba played a part in both of United’s last two matches after missing almost three months through injury.

On his team selection against Burnley, Solskjaer told BBC Sport: “It is a quick turnaround. We have had some players playing quite a bit. Fresh legs coming in.

“We’ve looked at Scott (McTominay) but we haven’t done the full scan yet. Over the weekend we will know more. It didn’t look good but we hope he’s going to heal quickly.

“Paul (Pogba) has played two games now and has been out for a while so we didn’t feel it was right for him to participate today.”
