Man City linked with signing another Benfica youngster after Dias

Man City are lining up a deal for young Benfica forward Darwin Nunez, according to reports.

City have a history of signing players from the Portuguese outfit, including keeper Ederson.

They also signed defender Ruben Dias from Benfica towards the end of September for a £62 million fee.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (via Goal), City are now looking at Nunez as a new striker.

The news follows problems with Pep Guardiola’s attacking options.

Sergio Aguero recently returned from an injury, only to be ruled soon after.

Guardiola has confirmed that he will miss their huge clash with Liverpool this weekend.

Brazilian Gabriel Jesus has made a successful return to the side, scoring against Olympiakos in the Champions League on Tuesday.

He looks set to start up top against Liverpool but remains their only true striker.

Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres have done well to fill in, but they’re known to be wingers usually.

It looks like City could be looking at signing Nunez as a long term replacement for Aguero.

The 21-year-old has broken into the Benfica first team and is currently impressing in Portugal.

He’s scored five goals and registered six assists in just ten matches this campaign.

That kind of form means the Uruguayan is one of the hottest properties in Portugal right now.

His potential could see him attract interest from some of Europe’s top clubs.

At the moment, City are the only club known to be monitoring him. They will be keen to get a deal over the line if a forward is their preferred signing.

A deal could even be struck in January, depending on Guardiola’s options.

City have had a mixed start to the season so far.

They’ve beaten the likes of Wolves and Arsenal in the league, but have also dropped points against Leicester and West Ham.

It might well be the biggest weekend of the season so far. The two biggest title contenders finally clash in a long-awaited meeting, but will Leicester or Wolves come out on top? Liverpool also play Manchester City or something apparently.
