Ancelotti hoping for defensive improvements after Everton win

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti wants his team to improve defensively after they conceded two in the victory over Fulham.

Talisman Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the away side ahead within the first minute. The ball hit him and went in the net from just two yards out.

Fulham then equalised in the 15th-minute as Bobby Decordova-Reid took a chance in the box brilliantly.

Calvert-Lewin then made himself the Premier League’s top goalscorer by reaching Lucas Digne’s cross first.

The English striker finished off a great Everton move involving quick one-touch passing.

Midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure made it three in the 35th-minute as he headed home from inside the box.

Digne was again involved in this one, putting a perfect cross in for Doucoure to rise to.

The second half saw Fulham miss yet another penalty this campaign as Ivan Cavaleiro slipped and hit the ball over the bar.

Rueben Loftus-Cheek scored Fulham’s second goal, which was heavily deflected in the 70th-minute.

But the Cottagers couldn’t pick up a point, leaving them towards the bottom of the table.

Speaking after the match, Ancelotti said: “The most important part of the game was to be back to winning.

“We lost energy in the second half, the players were tired, I changed to put more fresh legs on the pitch but we lost a bit of quality and we had to defend as a result but in the end it went well.

“Alex Iwobi played well, like the others played really well. I am pleased for him. In that wing-back position eh can show his quality.

“We have to improve defensively for sure. We were not so compact and not so close to the line. We have time this week to work on this.”
