Hiroshi Tanahashi to miss NJPW Road to Dontaku dates due to rib injury

Hiroshi Tanahashi will miss dates due to injury.

New Japan Pro Wrestling announced on Wednesday night that Tanahashi is still out of action due to a rib injury that was suffered at Capitol Collision in Washington, D.C. on April 15.

“After examination it has been determined that Tanahashi will be absent from forthcoming events on the Road to Dontaku Series starting today, April 20 in Nara, with a return date to be determined,” the statement on their website reads. Cards have been changed as a result of Tanahashi’s absence, which can be seen on NJPW’s schedule page.

Tanahashi suffered the injury in a match where he and Kazuchika Okada teamed together to take on Aussie Open and Motor City Machine Guns in a three-way for the Strong Tag Team titles, a match that Aussie Open won. The following day, Tanahashi was taken out of Collision in Philadelphia. As a result, the main event where we has set to team with Lio Rush and Tomohiro Ishii against TJP and Aussie Open was instead turned into a Strong Tag Team title match where Ishii and Rush lost to the new champions.

Tanahashi is currently scheduled to face Will Ospreay at NJPW Resurgence on May 21 in Los Angeles. The winner of that match will face Lance Archer at Dominion on June 4 in Osaka-jo Hall.
