Motorcyclist Who Died In Fiery Edens Expressway Crash Identified By Medical Examiner

WILMETTE, IL — The motorcyclist who died in a crash on the Edens Expressway over the weekend has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Cord Friis, 45, was driving a Suzuki motorcycle south on Interstate 94 near Lake Avenue in Wilmette when it collided with a Toyota Prius while crossing onto a ramp around 8:15 p.m., authorities said.

Following the crash, the motorcycle caught fire. Video footage shows the motorcycle and pieces of metal scattered across the road.

Friis was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died.

The medical examiner’s office ruled his death an accident caused by a motor vehicle collision.

Friis was a Deerfield High School graduate, according to his social media profile.

As of Wednesday, the medical examiner’s office had not determined where he lived at the time of his death.

Following the crash, southbound lanes were closed for several hours, with traffic diverted off the expressway to Skokie Avenue.

All lanes were reopened at 12:25 a.m. Sunday, state police reported.

No information was immediately available regarding the driver of the Toyota or any possible injuries.
