Lupita Nyong'o Just Convinced Me Black Lipstick Is a Festive Holiday Party Look

If you had the distinct privilege of attending Beyoncé's Renaissance tour (or you simply existed in this, the year of our Queen Bey 2023) you know how silvery outfits were practically a uniform for concertgoers. So it should come as no surprise that several celebrities who attended the world premiere of Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé followed suit — Lupita Nyong'o quite literally. As soon as I saw her Mach & Mach suit-like blazer dress, I knew I was looking at some amazing holiday-party ensemble inspo; sequins are always festive this time of year.

But I was genuinely surprised to realize that the Oscar winner's edgy makeup, while not your traditional Christmastime glam, totally works for this season's soirees.

It's not every day that I can say a star matched her eye makeup to her lipstick — or vice-versa — but Nyong'o did so with effortless panache over the weekend. Her eyes were fully lined with a black pencil and winged out in a matte finish at the edges. And just a few inches below, her lips were coated in a glossy black lipstick.

When it comes to black lipstick and holidays, the natural correlation is Halloween. But in the context of so much silver sparkle, it's suddenly so obvious that it could work for any yuletide shindigs.
