Dodge Caught Fire After Crash With Light Pole In Oswego: Police
OSWEGO, IL — The traffic lights at Douglas Road and Route 34 stopped functioning for the majority of Thursday after a car crashed into a light pole and caught fire, according to Oswego police.
The crash happened at about 11:15 a.m. when a Dodge Charger, driven by a 38-year-old man from Aurora, was driving eastbound on Route 34 when it collided with a BMW that was making a left turn onto southbound Douglas Road, police said.
The Charger continued across the intersection and over a curb, striking a light pole and catching on fire, according to Oswego police’s Friday blotter. The driver was hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.

Oswego first responders were dispatched to the crash, and the road was closed for about 90 minutes.
The collision caused the stoplights to stop working for the remainder of Thursday, resulting in police issuing an alert around 3:30 p.m. saying the lights would be out for another 8-10 hours.

The stoplight flashers were functioning for the Friday morning rush hour commute, but the lights won’t be fully operational until later on Friday, police said. Meade Electric is working to resolve the problem.
The Dodge driver was cited for reckless driving, speeding, failing to yield, failure to reduce speed to avoid accident, and no insurance.
