'We Need A Christmas Miracle': LI Family Loses Everything In Fire
MANORVILLE, NY — Just months after iconic Long Island civil rights leaders Lucius Ware, 91, passed away, his family was rocked by a new tragedy on Saturday — his grandson and his wife lost everything in a devastating house fire.
And now, the clock is ticking — they are living in a hotel but their check-out date is Christmas Eve and they need help to move forward into an uncertain future.
Lester Ware, his wife Jennifer, and their daughter Crystal, 19, were home when the fire broke out in Manorville. The family was left with nothing, Lester’s mother Leisha Ware wrote.

A GoFundMe, Support A Family After Devastating Fire, was organized by Kellie Hubbard and Jennifer Ware to help.
Crystal, Lester and Jennifer “are now homeless, with nothing but the clothing on their backs and all the fur babies in one car — watching as their lives just disappeared in one night,” the GoFundMe said.

Crystal and her father are members of the Shinnecock Nation, the page said.
“We are looking for any help — hygiene products, prayers, clothes, fur baby food, etc. Everything you have to offer is appreciated. Please help — it’s almost Christmas, and all they want is a warm home, guidance, and possibly a change of clothing. No one deserves to go through this, especially at the holiday time. Let’s turn their Grinchmas into a loving Christmas,” the GoFundMe said.
Ware said the family has been blindsided by the latest tragedy.
“First, my dad, who held us all together, is no longer here to help when needed the most,” Leisha Ware wrote on social media. “Now my oldest son lost his house to a devastating house fire. My head is spinning.”
But, she added, there is something to be grateful for: “Thank God they all made it out of the house safely.”
Since the December 14 fire, her son, his wife and their daughter “are currently in an emergency hotel, paid for by a local church for a week. Their check-out date is December 24, Christmas Eve. We need a Christmas miracle,” Leisha Ware said.
