Heavy Flooding In Livermore Causes Submerged Cars, Rail Closings

LIVERMORE, CA — Heavy rains brought flooding and chaos to Livermore Saturday, according to city officials.

Two vehicles were partially submerged in water at the Murietta underpass, according to LPFD spokesperson Rosa Ramos. One of the drivers was able to self-extricate and walk to safety, while another driver required assistance. LPFD crews were able to secure the vehicle from floating away by tying it off with a rope bag.

Another car was stranded at the train tracks at L Street and Chestnut Street, according to Ramos. Rail traffic was shut down and crews successfully extricated the driver by a raft.

On Saturday at 7:30 a.m., the city closed the underpasses at Murrieta Boulevard north of Stanley Boulevard and P Street north of Railroad Avenue, according to city spokesperson Stephanie Egidio. The P Street underpass was reopened at 11 a.m., and the Murrieta underpass was opened at 2 p.m.
