Firefighters Extinguish School Bus Electrical Fire In Bay Shore: FD

BAY SHORE, NY — Firefighters extinguished an electrical fire in a school bus in Bay Shore on Friday, the Islip Fire Department told Patch.

At 9:40 a.m., Islip firefighters received a call reporting an electric bus on fire at Suffolk Transportation Services 50 Saxon Ave., officials said.

Responding units found an electrical fire on a full-sized unoccupied school bus in the bus yard, officials said.

Before firefighters arrived, the bus company staff used two fire extinguishers to quell the flames, leaving Islip crews to extinguish the electrical fire and check for any extension, firefighters said.

According to the fire department, the Town of Islip’s HAZMAT team was requested to the site to ensure the integrity of the battery system.

Suffolk County police said no injuries were reported.
