York High School Scores At City Hall

ELMHURST, IL – Frustrated Elmhurst School District 205 officials got some relief at City Hall on Monday.

All three members of a City Council committee approved a request for a new $259,000 video scoreboard at York High School’s football field.

The matter has been undergoing a city review since May. That upset the district, which wanted the scoreboard up in time for the first home football game.

But Alderwoman Marti Deuter, who heads the Development, Planning and Zoning Committee, said her panel recommended the council fast-track the issue.

That way, everything can be approved all at once, allowing the school to install the new scoreboard soon.

“The Committee expressed genuine appreciation for the work of the (Zoning and Planning) commission, city staff, and all members of the public who participated in the process and for our partnership with District 205,” Deuter said in an email to Patch.

At last week’s school board meeting, member Courtenae Trautmann expressed frustration with the delays in approval for the scoreboard.

Over the summer, the zoning commission considered the school’s request, which members approved last week.

The district, Trautmann said at the board meeting, had found itself “tangled in endless discussions and a constant back-and-forth that has led us nowhere.”
