Lemont Girl Scouts Work With That Girl + Co To Help The Legacy Ranch
LEMONT, IL — A Lemont Girl Scout troop helped support a local nonprofit, by teaming up with a local business to help build a new mounting block for The Legacy Ranch in Lockport.
The Legacy Ranch, at 2705 S. Farrell Road, provides therapeutic riding, occupational therapy, physical therapy, mental health therapy, veteran programming and an adult life skills program.
Kate Rasmussen, Executive Director for the Legacy Ranch, said that Troop 75643 reached out to the ranch about doing a service project for the facility.

The troop worked with Lemont business, That Girl + Co, to build an off-side mounting block that volunteers use to stand on to help riders mount the horse, Rasmussen said. That Girl + Co, owned by Massiel Ullsmith, is located in downtown Lemont, and is a lifestyle studio that holds classes and workshops for girls and women to learn new skills.
In addition to the mounting block, the troop also made a total of $3,500 in cash donations.

“Our plan is to use the funds to purchase outdoor shelters for our horses,” Rasmussen told Patch. “We are in the process of receiving quotes from a variety of manufacturers.”
For their service to the ranch, the troop, which is made up of fifth grade girls, earned the Bronze Award. The Bronze Award is the highest award that Junior scouts can earn, according to the Girl Scout website.
