Wallingford, Yalesville Little Leagues Announce Merger
WALLINGFORD, CT — The long-discussed “inevitable” has become a reality for Little League baseball in Wallingford.
Wallingford Little League and Yalesville Little League announced Tuesday that the leagues have agreed to a merger for the 2025 season.
The boards of both leagues unanimously approved the merger on Monday night.

Officials with both leagues will work over the next few months on the merger process, including drafting new bylaws and mission and vision statements, and gaining approval at the district and national Little League levels.
The merger was spearheaded by Yalesville Little League President Ray Gomes and Wallingford Little League President Larry McClure. Both have expressed their excitement and commitment to the merger, ensuring that the combined league will uphold the traditions and values that have defined each league.

“I am beyond excited at the prospects of bringing these two great organizations together,” McClure said. “Over the past few years, we’ve worked together on interleague play and, more recently, our combined tournament teams have demonstrated the quality of Wallingford baseball. Formalizing what is already a great working partnership is an ideal outcome for the future of youth baseball in our town.”
The leagues combined for the 12U District All-Star team this year. The team, which has adopted the moniker “492” to represent the town’s 06492 zip code, advanced to the final four of the state tournament by winning the District 5 and Section 2 championships.
“I am excited about what this merger means for the children of our community,” Gomes said. “The geographic boundaries that we once had to abide by are no longer an issue, thereby expanding opportunities and providing a better baseball experience for every player. The history of cooperation between both leagues points to a unified future. As players from both leagues come together, new friendships will develop and grow along with our new inclusive league. This merger is about creating one Little League that transcends the individual and builds a program that will benefit all.”
Wallingford Little League Vice President Chris Cirri said the merger will also have a positive impact on the community.
“This merger is a testament to our collective love for baseball and our dedication to providing the best opportunities for our children,” Cirri said. “By joining forces, we not only strengthen our league but also reinforce the sense of community that makes Wallingford a special place. Together, we will build a future where our youth can thrive, on and off the field.”
