Montclair Cops Give Woman Lifesaving Aid; Family ‘Eternally Grateful’
MONTCLAIR, NJ — They heard their mom stop breathing.
This was the harrowing experience that Neil Shroff and his brother, Niku Shroff, went through last week when their mother, Devyani Shroff – a Montclair resident – called them on the phone at 1:41 a.m. to tell them she was having serious medical issues.
Knowing that time was of the essence, the Shroff brothers immediately called 911, listening to their mother stop breathing in the meanwhile. Montclair police officers arrived at their mother’s home two or three minutes later.

Here’s what happened next, according to a social media post from the Montclair PBA 53:
“Upon arrival, officers found [Shroff] to be unresponsive and not breathing. Officers quickly went into action and began CPR and placed an AED on [Shroff] until paramedics and EMTs arrived. While treating the female, the EMTs and paramedics were able to obtain a pulse and the ambulance transported the female to the hospital.”
The Montclair PBA reported Wednesday that Shroff is on her way to recovery.

Neil Shroff told Patch that if it wasn’t for the quick action of the first responders at the scene – Giancarlo Corbosiero, Zachary Davis and Jillian Sofield – his mother “would not be here today.”
And the Shroff family would like to personally thank the three officers for going above and beyond the call of duty to help a fellow Montclair resident in need.
“We are eternally grateful,” Shroff said.
