Heavy Fire And Smoke Damage Home, Displaces Rahway Family

RAHWAY, NJ — A three-alarm house fire on Tuesday morning has displaced a Rahway family.

On March 5 at around 1:15 a.m., Rahway Fire Department was called to 1824 Lawrence St.

One person was inside at the time of the fire but was outside when firefighters arrived, said Rahway Fire Chief Michael Roberts.

Firefighters found the one-and-a-half story wood frame home with heavy fire on the first floor extending to the second floor, said Roberts.

The three-alarm fire prompted help from Union County mutual aid including Westfield Fire Department.

The fire was extinguished and firefighters remained at the scene until 3:39 a.m.

The home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage throughout. The home is uninhabitable and the Red Cross of New Jersey helped the “family of two with emergency Red Cross assistance for things like temporary lodging, food, clothing and other immediate needs.”

The fire is under investigation.
