Winter Storm Causes Frankfort Golf Dome Collapse: FFPD

FRANKFORT, IL — The roof over the indoor driving range at Green Garden Country Club collapsed Friday due to the winter storm, according to the Frankfort Fire Protection District.

The golf dome, at 9511 W. Manhattan-Monee Road is a “balloon dome,” Fire Chief Sean Fierce said. The dome maintains its shape by being pressurized.

The combination of rain, heavy snow and wind direction cause the roof to sag, Fierce said. A light pole inside the facility then punctured the dome, and the roof burst open like a balloon.

No injuries were reported, but the dome is unusable at this time, according to the fire district.

According to the country club website, there are 40 hitting stations inside the golf dome, a chipping area, a putting green, and a full bar with seating.
