Dockers Remains Closed Following Shooting

FOX LAKE, IL — A waterfront restaurant in Fox Lake will remain closed through the weekend following a shooting Tuesday. Meanwhile, the condition of the owner of Dockers, who was shot by his brother, is improving, authorities said Friday.

Dockers, which is located at 33 West Grand Avenue, has been closed since Tuesday when Marciano Martinez, 63, shot his younger brother, Mario Martinez, several times before fatally shooting himself, authorities said.

“We are closed and will be closed throughout the weekend. We are putting a plan in place to reopen but do not have details or date, yet,” said Chris Valenziano, spokesman for Dockers in Fox Lake.

The community of Fox Lake, members of the Martinez family and workers at Dockers have been reeling and trying to make sense following the tragic incident.

In a Facebook post earlier this week, staff and members of the Martinez family requested the public’s privacy as they “try to navigate through this painful time.” On Thursday morning, staffers and family members thanked the public for their kindness and empathy.

“We see you. We hear you. We are forever grateful for you,” according to a post on the Dockers Facebook page. “Please continue to extend healing thoughts to our ENTIRE family as we heal, and grieve.”

On Thursday afternoon, the business went on to thank medical first responders, businesses and organizations in the Fox Lake community that have reached out and the staff at Dockers.

“To everyone seeing this post; please know how eternally grateful we are for the absolute love and compassion we have received from this community, Fox Lake, as well as several surrounding communities. Thank you,” employees with Dockers wrote on Thursday.

Emergency crews were first called to Dockers at about 1:05 p.m. Tuesday for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found the restaurant’s sole owner, Mario Martinez, shot near a side door at the restaurant. His brother, Marciano Martinez, 63, was found fatally shot outside the restaurant.

Mario Martinez, who was initially taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in critical condition, remained hospitalized Friday, Fox Lake Police Chief Jimmy Lee told Patch. He is currently in stable condition.

An investigation into the shooting revealed Marciano Martinez, who previously owned the restaurant with his younger brother, traveled to the restaurant Tuesday afternoon and the two brothers got into a disagreement while inside the business, authorities said.

Marciano pulled out a gun and shot his younger brother, ac0cording to authorities. Mario tried to flee the area and get outside, but Marciano followed him and continued to shoot at him, according to a news release from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.

Police say he continued shooting at Mario until the 56-year-old man collapsed outside the restaurant. Marciano then fatally shot himself, according to authorities.
