NJPW releases statement on Mercedes Mone injury

New Japan Pro Wrestling has released a statement on Mercedes Mone.

The former IWGP Women's Champion was injured at NJPW Resurgence on Sunday. During her match against Willow Nightingale in the finals of the Strong Women's title tournament, Mone fell from the top turnbuckle to the floor and was unable to put weight on her foot after.

NJPW released the following statement on Thursday:

During her match with Willow Nightingale in the main event of Resurgence May 21, Mercedes Moné sustained an injury to her right ankle.

Moné underwent a thorough appraisal of her injury immediately after her match and began treatment.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling joins fans in wishing Moné a full and fast recovery.

There is currently no timetable for her return.

Mone had been scheduled to win the match and the title on Sunday. However, after the injury, an audible was called. Nightingale hit Mone with a sit-out powerbomb but the referee held his count up at two, seemingly not knowing it was now the finish. A second sit-out powerbomb was delivered and this time the referee completed the three count.

Mone's castmates from The Mandalorian, Emily Swallow, and Katee Sackhoff, were both in attendance for the show.
